Marvel is pleased to announce that Spider-Girl will return in an all new series, exclusive to the groundbreaking Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited (http://www.marvel.com/digitalcomics),
beginning April 15th! _____________________________________________________________________ (03-16-09) - Paramount and DreamWorks are forging ahead with "Transformers 3," dating the movie for release on July 1, 2011. It's the first word of the three-quel, although Paramount insiders downplayed the importance of the move. They said the studio wanted to claim the date before a competitor did, considering that the 2011 summer release calendar is filling up. No deals have been inked with director Michael Bay or franchise stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. Nor has a writer been hired for the third installment. _____________________________________________________________________ (03-12-09) - Marvel studios strengthens self-produced film release schedule through 2012 Get out your calendars Marvelites and get ready to mark them up—with the film release dates associated with the continuous story arc (YES!) on the road to "The Avengers!" Plus, if your Spidey senses are tingling, that's because "Spider-Man 4" now has an official release date! Paving the way for the production and release of "The Avengers," Marvel announced today an adjusted release pipeline for its self-produced feature film properties that reflects the first time individual super hero characters and story arcs will be inter-woven and culminate in a multi-character motion picture. Separately, Marvel Studios confirmed today that Sony Pictures Entertainment will release "Spider-Man 4" on May 6, 2011. Additionally, Marvel Studios has revised the release dates for "Thor" and "The First Avenger: Captain America" as part of its release strategy for an uninterrupted road to "The Avengers," now debuting May 4, 2012. A Marvel character-based film will now launch the summer box office season for three years in a row, from 2010 through 2012. "This new schedule strongly sequences Marvel's movie debut dates, big screen character introductions and momentum. It maximizes the visibility of our single character-focused films, leading to the highly anticipated release of the multi-character 'The Avengers' film in 2012," said David Maisel, Chairman, Marvel Studios. Sony Pictures' and Marvel Studios' "Spider-Man 4" is slated for May 6, 2011. To date, all three motion pictures in the phenomenally successful "Spider-Man" franchise have generated nearly $2.5 billion worldwide theatrically. The Wrestler's comeback kid, Mickey Rourke, has finally sealed a deal to play villain Whiplash, according to Variety. High Street. The show kicks off on Friday, March 6 with a reception with the artists that begins at the Laughing Ogre comic book store at 4258 N. High Street at 4 PM, and then moves to Crimson Cup at 6 PM, continuing until 9 PM. In addition to viewing the artwork on display, those who attend the reception will have the opportunity to contribute panels to an ongoing “jam comic strip”. “There's an independent-minded, artistic vibe in Columbus and our group has tapped into that,” says Max Ink, Sunday Comix Executive Director. “The writers and artists of our group each have something unique to say and choose to express it through the art of comics. We encourage individuality and artistic discovery over conforming to the standards and norms of American commercial comics.” The participating Sunday Comix artists express their individuality through a wide range of styles and genres in comics and cartoon art. All have had their work featured in various local publications, including the Short North Gazette and Columbus Alive! Matt Wyatt's editorial cartoons have appeared in area weeklies since 2003. Sue Olcott's “Onion City” is featured every month in the e-magazine Naked Sunfish, and Ray Tomczak's “Wasted Potential” has been appearing weekly on-line for over two years. Columbus College of Art and Design graduate Jonathon Riddle is currently collaborating with Columbus State teacher Terry Eisel on a graphic novel set in World War II era Czechoslovakia. Rich Watson, whose webcomic “City Mouse Goes West” chronicles his move from New York City to Columbus, was recently profiled by the Columbus Dispatch, and Max Ink's comic, “Blink,” has been declared both “charming” and “worth its weight in gold” by Rick Allen of The Other Paper. Sunday Comix was founded by Max Ink in 2003 in order to create a sense of community among local comics artist and to promote the artform to the general public. The group meets the third Sunday of each month at the Upper Arlington Public Library. In addition, a spin-off group, Wednesday Comix, gathers on Wednesday evenings at Crimson Cup. All are welcome to attend the meetings of the group. Previously, the group has shown its work at Kafé Kerouac, near the OSU campus, and at the Gallery Upstairs, above the Short North's Surly Girl Saloon. The local opening of “The Atomic Indie Comix Show” coincides with the nationwide release of the movie “Watchmen”, based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons named by Time magazine as one of the Top 100 Novels of All Time. “Watchmen” is the latest in a spate of comics inspired films that, along with the increasing visibility of graphic novels in bookstores, have helped to bring comics back into the cultural mainstream. _____________________________________________________________________ (2-23-09) - Celebrate Will Eisner Week The first week of March will mark the inaugural Will Eisner Week, a celebration of Will Eisner's legacy in graphic novel literacy and free expression. Will Eisner Week will be celebrated this year from March 1 to March 7, commemorating the 92nd anniversary of Eisner's birth. Will Eisner Week is intended as an ongoing celebration that will promote graphic novel literacy, free speech awareness, and the legacy of Eisner himself to a broad audience. This first annual celebration is themed "The Spirit of A Legend," examining Will Eisner's seminal Spirit comic, as well as the spirit inherent in his work that has inspired generations of comic readers and artists. This theme will be explored at events in Minneapolis at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, in Savannah at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and in New York City. In addition to events, a variety of academic papers and group activity assignments are available on WillEisner.com. _____________________________________________________________________ PACKRAT Comics Saturday, February 7, 2009 10am-7pm Over 2500 SQ FT of Space added to Packrat thousands of comics only $1.00 each!
